Six active students from Faculty of Communication Science (FIKOM) in Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) was ready to compete in Perpov X Riau Championship 2022 in Kuansing, Riau. Defri Gunawan as a delegate of Pekanbaru in rafting sport, Rufa Eliza and Geofany joined Petanque competition. Also, Ginanjar Melina, Yundri Aspiman, Fikri Roza, Muhammad Rian Amsyah and Asbul Mizan participated in the event.

The opening of Perpov Riau X held in Teluk Kuantan Sport Center stadium, Kuantan tengah on Saturday (12/11/2022), at 18:00 WIT (Western Indonesia Time). Attended by 4.456 athletes, coaches and officials from 12 regencies and towns.

From the varieties of the sports those FIKOM UIR students joined, in rafting sport achieved a medal. Based on the @bemfikom_uir Instagram’s account, that glorious achievement has been achieved by Defri  Gunawan as a delegate of Pekanbaru, got a silver medal in R4 DRR class, meanwhile in R6 class Mix Slalom got a bronze medal in Pekan Olahraga Provinsi (Perprov) yang ke X in Kuantan Singingi, Riau (22/11/2022).

Defri Gunawan said that rafting competition was his first. The preparation before the event, he done it for one month. Nevertheless, he was glad because he could honor Pekanbaru as the winner.

“Rafting sport in Perpov X Kuansing has four competitions, sprint, Drr, Head To Head, Slalom. I joined Drr and Slalom competitions that held for four days, started from 18 until 21 of  November 2022. Slalom is a sport rafting in a zigzag or wavy course between upright obstacles that been prepared by the crews. Whilst, Drr is race between the opponent by face the obstacles given by the crews. I had 16 teammates in my team. Our opponents were from 6 regencies” said Defri Gunawan being interviewed via DM, on Thursday (8/12/2022) 19:57 WIT (Western Indonesia Time)

Some FIKOM students participated in a prestigious event held by the Riau Province Tourism Office, namely Mutia Dini, Harris Ilham Rahadi and Aisyah Putri Pertiwi participating in the Pekanbaru City Bujang Dara event on June 19, 2022 which is always held annually. All three are students of FIKOM, Universitas Islam Riau. On this occasion Harris Ilham Rahadi became the first winner in the event. Of course, events like this can channel the interests and talents of students outside the campus to hone their soft skills. In addition to honing soft skills, joining students outside the campus will certainly build networking so that it will have a good positive impact on future career paths. The event held by the Prawisata Office provides many lessons that can be taken and implemented in life such as learning manners, being a friendly person, and much more. Participants who come out as winners will be called Bujang Dara, namely 1st and 2nd place. After the Bujang Dara election is carried out, participants will become the Icon of Pekanbaru city such as promoting culture, culinary, tourist attractions and so on. The cooperation between Bujang Dara and the Tourism Office will last for approximately one year to participate in every activity carried out. Bujang Dara activities are held every year and are divided into two categories, namely Bujang Dara Kecil and Bujang Dara. Bujang Dara Kecil is an activity that is followed by students who are still in school, namely high school. While Bujang Dara is an activity that is followed by students and even the public if they meet the criteria sought in the event.

A total of 29 Faculty of Communication Sciences Universitas Islam Riau (FIKOM UIR) students were selected for the Merdeka Student Exchange program (PMM) in 2022. The second batch of the Independent Learning Independent Campus (MBKM) program finally held a release on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at the Auditorium Room of the Rectorate Building of Universitas Islam Riau. A total of 148 students consisting of various study programs in nine faculties at Universitas Islam Riau. Students who take part in this PMM program studied for one semester from August 22, 2022 to January 2023 and UIR students dispatched directly to the universities chosen by each student. FIKOM UIR students who graduated from this program then will carry out learning on the Java Island campus including AMIKOM Jogjakarta and Telkom University Bandung.

 In addition to studying, students will learn and experience firsthand the various cultures in a number of universities that have been chosen by students. The PMM program is one of the flagship programs of directorate general of higher education, research and technology, Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology which provides opportunities for students to use their learning rights outside the study program and outside the university. With this PMM program, it is hoped that students can implement the knowledge gained after this program is completed so that they will be more eager to carry out lectures because they have gained new experiences and energy from the campus.
